Can You Feel It?/
Deep into the groove
Chicago House music is a musical genre,
a social movement, a phenomenon, that was born in the underground warehouse gay clubs in Chicago’s west- and southside neighbor-hoods in the early I980s.
It is considered the nexus of all electronic dance club music. The fast upbeat tempo of Chicago House music is classic, original House. Chicago House music will never die. The track “Can You Feel It” by Mr. Fingers is the anthem of Chicago House. In the lyrics it’s said that “Jack had a groove and that from this groove came the grooves of all grooves”. So I developed a Visual Identity for an eponymous fictional record label utilizing design elements gained from the physical grooves of the respective record. Each new release, each new vinyl, has its unique, distinctive and recognizable visual apearance.
A series of microscopic photographs defines the artwork and Visual Identity. The idea was to visualize what you hear. A journey into the depths of the physical groove. The groove itself is wiggling in a graphical interpretation on the front covers.
There is no real logo or trademark imprinted, and the typography with the artist and release information is secondary as well. It’s all about the music. Can you feel it?
