A collaborative poster project
Connected Project is an exponentially growing poster project, based upon the "Butterfly Effect" metaphor, starting with just one basic poster. Every participant reacts to his/her predecessor and subsequently invites two new designers or artists. The project ran from April Ith 20I0 till May 30th 20I0, and was exhibited on live-screens at the Graphic Design Festival Breda 20I0. The first project ran in the beginning of 2009. In the I960s, american mathematician Edward Lorenz described what became known as the “Butterfly Effect” in which he posited, that a minute change in the atmosphere could set off a chain reaction. This experiment followed a similar reasoning to result in a graphic network that not only visualises our interpersonal connections, but also shows our “degrees of separation” from other (international) designers. Holy Grey created three A3-sized posters, each containing a related theme. They sent these posters to three befriended designers in their network. These designers then improved, altered or changed the poster in some way based on the main concept. And then the poster continued along the chain by being sent to, and then redesigned, by two designers in their own network. You can take a look on the results of my two befriended designers:
